Detailed Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Paro - Transfer to Thimphu

Arrive at Paro International Airport and meet your guide. Drive to Thimphu with gentle birding stops along the Paro and Wang Chhu riverbanks. These areas are ideal for spotting riverine and woodland bird species. In the evening, enjoy a short orientation walk in Thimphu.

Overnight: Thimphu

Depart early for Punakha, stopping at Dochula Pass and Lamperi forest for birding in cool montane habitats. The forest edges here offer excellent chances to observe Himalayan birds. Continue descending into the warmer Punakha valley and explore riverside habitats in the afternoon.

Overnight: Punakha

Spend the day birdwatching along the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu river corridors and nearby forest trails. These low to mid-altitude zones support a wide variety of birdlife. Enjoy a relaxed pace with time for photography and observation.

Overnight: Punakha

Travel towards Phobjikha Valley via scenic mountain roads, stopping for birding along forested stretches. Phobjikha’s open wetlands and surrounding woodlands create a unique habitat for highland species. An evening walk allows quiet observation in this peaceful valley.

Overnight: Phobjikha

Cross Pelela Pass, one of Bhutan’s important high-altitude birding areas. Short walks along the pass and forest edges provide opportunities to see alpine species. Continue to Bumthang, stopping along the way for birding and scenic views.

Overnight: Bumthang

Begin the journey back toward Paro, with multiple birding stops in mixed forests and river valleys en route. The varied altitude changes allow sightings of different bird communities. Arrive in Paro by evening for a relaxed final night.

Overnight: Paro

Early morning excursion to Chele La Pass, one of Bhutan’s highest motorable passes, known for alpine bird species and sweeping Himalayan views. After birding, return to Paro and transfer to the airport for departure.
